The Dragons of Nova by Elise Kova
3.0

When I picked this up, I was really hesitant. The first one was pretty good and I wanted to know what happened pretty badly but I knew it would focus a lot more on my least favorite of the three main characters, Cvareh, and less on my favorite; Florence.

One of the things that annoyed me about Cvareh, and the dragons in general, was that, despite the cover art, they weren't described very well and throughout the first book, the more they were described, the less they seemed like dragons and the more they seemed like rainbow vampires. They went from actual dragons to dragons without wings to dragonborn and finally what the cover shows. He also had the least character development and a pretty unlikable character. However, Petra made up for his lack of personality in the previous book with her strong personality in this book. The whole chapter-long sex scene was a little much, but the characters handled their union well with just about the right amount of drama, though
Spoiler Arianna blaming Cvareh in the end
was a little over the top and didn't make a whole lot of sense. Thankfully, Florence's journey made me keep reading and the character development we get from her is golden. Though there was a lot of time that was wasted on the Pantheon and on Arianna's basic imprisonment in the Xin castle. This wasn't as good as the first and hopefully the third will be better, but it was worth the read, even if there were a lot of scantily clad rainbow vampires I had to picture. *dry heaves*
