"All my life, this story has lived inside of me. The pieces and the players, the questions."
First, the external - The Ghostwriter is easily one of my favourite covers and sprayed edge books.
Thank you to @raincoastbooks @sourcebooks for the gorgeous finished copy for review!
And now, the internal - what a noteworthy thriller. The Ghostwriter checked all the boxes for elements I love in a suspense novel.
- a decades-old murder mystery
- unreliable narrators and multiple POVs
- found footage
- dark family secrets
Plus, author Julie Clark has woven all of this among the complicated father-daughter relationship of famous writer Vincent Taylor, and Olivia Dumont, who has been hired to ghostwrite his memoir. Vincent's memory is failing due to Lewy Body dementia, and his version of the events leading to the murder of his brother and sister in 1975 is questionable.
I savoured this read, taking in all the turns and reveals breaking down Olivia's research into her family's dark legacy.
Like the book edition itself, none of it disappointed.
Recommended!
Released on June 3.
