Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer

5.0

This book led me to deep emotions in every chapter. From untold history to well-explained ecology to profound storytelling, I think everyone should read this book. Kimmerer seems to integrate science and wisdom effortlessly. Even if you are skeptical of non-fiction, she has a way of teaching through poignant narration, bringing the reader to a new place in time and space with each story and making it all feel like the reader is really there watching Earth’s creation or making maple syrup or wading into a cool pond or kayaking through cattails or camping in the forest or restoring a polluted lake or learning a lost language.

If we can all understand a “new” way of thinking about the world and practice reciprocity, from teachings of cultures that are older and wiser, we have a chance to move from grief and greed to hope and abundance.
