Fake Dates and Mooncakes
by Sher Lee
By far the sweetest romcom I've come across, probably ever. Dylan and Theo were so cute together and I loved the fake-dating in this, it was done so beautifully. They had such good chemistry!
The writing style was excellent, in my opinion, and I liked that every word was relevant for the plot later on, with no loose ends by the end of the story. Usually, everything working out perfectly by the end - honestly, not just working out, but being above and beyond the characters' wildest dreams - would have been annoying to me, and while it did exasperate me a little when I saw it, it was done so well that I can't find it in myself to be mad at it.
The pun shirts were wonderful and I had little chuckle about each and every one of them. Also, the food descriptions still make me hungry and it's been a few days since I finished the book. Terri and Aunt Jade were probably my favourite side characters, because of their complexity. I understand why not all side characters got the same amount of complexity, but some of the others felt like stock characters to me, with essentially one defining trait. That was a bit of a letdown, because it made them very predictable. However, it's perfectly appropriate for the genre, and it did not even come close to ruining the story for me.
Overall, a very fun summer read. It was exactly the right book to take on vacation with me.
