Kingdom of Betrayal and Unknown by Maeve Kensington
medium-paced
3.0
This was one of the long awaited ARCs I had signed-up for and I was really excited and looking forward to it. In a world where the fae are slaves to humans, it’s dangerous for human Adeline to not adhere to the rules - stay away and don’t interact with the fae. However, things come to a head when she finds out that she has a mate bond with one of them. Kingdom of Betrayal and Unknown is the first book in a new series where readers follow Adeline and her journey in figuring out what will happen.
As I mentioned before, this novel was one I had eagerly anticipated. While I enjoyed the premise there were times I had some trouble following the story. One of the things that made it difficult for me to place/imagine the story was the diction. The language becomes modern at times and I felt like I was being pulled out from the events. The characters are interesting and there’s a bit of intrigue but sometimes there is a repetition of ideas/sayings that make them seem a bit flat. Overall, if you’re looking for a new adventure I would recommend it but this didn’t quite hit the spot for me.
Thank you to Maeve Kensington for gifting me this ARC. All opinions are my own.
