Full disclosure: I listened to the audiobook. While I appreciate the narrators talent, the director did a real disservice by having each character have a different (and inconsistent) accent. That being said, I really liked the world and the plot! The magic system was unique and I loved the diverse characters. Honestly, the FMC was probably my least favorite and there was very little chemistry between her and the MMC. I also felt like the writing wasn’t fully flushed out. While I know this is part of a larger series, I still want my books to follow the typical structure of Intro, Act I, Middle Acts, Final Act / Cliff Hanger and to deviate from that leaves the book feeling incomplete.
