The Sword of Kaigen by M.L. Wang
Did not finish book. Stopped at 6%.
DNF - I was really excited for this after hearing about it endlessly, however I am not enjoying this and feel it’s time to move on without finishing.
What I’d read was very focused on the people and culture, which is fine, but I’m somewhat confused on our setting. How modern is this world? It opens talking about a high school and there’s a mention of some translator that sounded like tech. There’s also been some very modern phrases that is a very nitpicky thing I dislike in fantasy if it’s meant to be shaped after an earlier historical time period.
Second issue - the italics. I saw a number of other reviews here mention this after deciding to put this one away.
