The Friend by Sigrid Nunez

4.0

The Friend boasts 26 glowing reviews on its first two pages from reviewers as varied as the New York Times Book Revew! Vogue! LA Times! Publishers Weekly! Buzzfeed! Wall Street Journal! Why write another glowing review when it's been so expertly accomplished by others. I'll just repeat here the review from the Economist...

"The Friend is an intimate, beautiful thing...humming with insight..."[An] artfully discursive meditation on friendship, love, death, solitude, canine companionship, and the life of an aging writer in New York..Like a magpie, Nunez's heroine plucks wisdom from writers, philosophers, and films to weave a story about the search for meaning in dark times."

I find that I can open any page of this book and find something thoughtful and intriguing, sometimes funny. For example....actually i just got lost in doing exactly just that. I can't choose a particular passage.
