I was strangely disappointed. Of course the prose was beautiful, Gabriel Garcia Marquez is an incredibly talented writer, but the story lacked objective for me. It meanders through what feels to the reader like the least interesting part of this man's life. Perhaps there are interesting morals on historical figures, and freedom and outgrowing being a hero but they are difficult to focus on past what feels like an incredibly dull, doomed roadtrip.
