Better than the movie (movie still slaps as one of the best of all time), I cried at the end amd couldn't be happier. Was rooting for everybody, and what I love most about this story in general is how it exudes such a quiet joy in small moments throughout the characters' lives, and is always interwoven with hope. Black people and black women almost never get happy endings like this in classic literature/media, and that is what makes this so precious (even classic black lit that I love). Would absolutely read it again, can't stop thinking about it, and just feel like laughing, dancing, crying, laying in a field of purple, and grinning like a fool to the sun.
