Happy Accidents by Jane Lynch
4.0

It was a happy accident that I read this book.

Ok. I lied. It was 100% intentional that I read this. I loved Glee and loved the character of Sue Sylvester even more than I love the show. I saw this book years ago when I was too poor to buy books and forgot about it. Recently I convinced my boyfriend to watch all of Glee with me. We are on the second season and he's pretty much a Gleek at this point. This still doesn't have a lot to do with me getting the book - he just gave me someone to read excerpts to. A few weeks ago I listened to the Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend podcast in which Jane Lynch was the guest. She was absolutely lovely and I was struck with the urgent need to get this book and read it immediately. Luckily, I am now in a place in my life where I can buy books (to the point where it is an addiction but that's neither here nor there). So badabing badaboom...I did buy it and I did read it.

I really loved this book. I liked that it wasn't too over the top. I liked the honesty in acknowledging her bitchy moments, anxious moments, humble moments, lucky moments, hard earned moments, on and on and on. I'm not ashamed to admit I got choked up more than once. I loved the honesty about being gay - not about actually voicing that she is gay as much as how it felt throughout her life and the happiness she found. It didn't have all the gossip, snarkiness, and Drama (yeah, with a capital D) that some people crave in memoirs, but I didn't want it to. It wouldn't have been fitting to Jane nor her intended audience.

Now I want to go out and watch everything she has ever been in, including ones I've already seen but probably didn't appreciate as much then as I would now.
