Sydelle is whisked away from her village by a mysterious wizard in exchange for rain in her drought stricken land. The wizard, Wayland North, says he needs her to help approach the queen and Imperial Sorceress to prevent war between their land and another. North never really explains much to Sydelle about why her, yet she is willing to follow him on his journey, finding out along the way that she too is capable of magic and in a way that hasn't been seen for years.

North is reminiscent of eccentric Howl from the beloved Howl's Moving Castle, and Sydelle reminded me of Clary from City of Bones (who I didn't care for). Recommended 7-9th grades.
