It's not really that these books are written badly, it's just that there's more romance than plot, and it's usually pretty boring and sappy romance at that, which just isn't my thing. The flirting is annoying and goes on too long-flirting isn't fun, in my opinion, unless your the one doing it. Watching other people do it, or reading about other people do it, is just pointless-it's nowhere near intelligent conversation and not near as cute as the characters or writer must think it is.
I do like that the villains in this story have some depth, and have relationships that they care about, and a life they care about. I also like Cian (the "good" vampire), but there's so little focus on him that it couldn't really get me through. And the ending pretty much just happens without any climax or closure. Eh.
