Out with Lanterns by Hillary Bowen

I saw someone raving about this book, so I decided to read it. Big mistake. It’s one of those books where you’ve got nothing else to say except that not everyone can write, and that’s fine.

It honestly reads like she binged read a couple of historical romances and thought, oh, I can write one too. That’s literally what she says in the acknowledgements, and well, it shows. There’s just nothing likable about this story. Nothing engaging, nothing that made me feel invested, not in the plot, not in the characters, not in anything. It’s all very blah and meh.

I just didn’t give a shit about any of it, which is sad because the story could have worked if someone else had written it. The writing is actually the worst part.

Overall, boring characters, boring story, boring romance. A major snoozefest.

Ending: HFN (they are married with no kids because they do not want to. The heroine never did, and after the war and knowing it is a hard limit for her, the hero does not want them either).
