I couldn’t put this down. I liked it even better than Ng’s wildly popular Little Fires Everywhere. I think because I could so easily relate to the characters.
Everything that happened was because of them wanting to please someone else at the expense of themselves or wanting to fit in or wanting to be themselves or not expressing their feelings clearly or misunderstanding what someone else is feeling. All things that happen to people every day. And it’s heartbreaking to see what the consequences can be.
