The Rose Society by Marie Lu
4.0

This book about an almost villain is a nice read that draws you into the world Mrs. Lu creates. The fight scenes completely grabbed my attention and the real truths that can be found in this book are both words of wisdom everyone needs to learn and words nobody wants to hear. It surprises me how I both like and dislike all the characters to a point. They all have secrets that others may or may not know, tell lies to others and themselves, and do terrible things that both sadden and intrigue me. One thing I disliked about this novel was that there was not a chapter from Raffaelle's POV telling Enzo about the Dagger's side of the story. I honestly feel like Adelina was right in that both truths and lies would be told in that meeting. We know the truths and lies Adelina told through her meeting with Enzo so I feel we should know about the other side since there would be a group of people versus one. This chapter missing for me made the confrontation between Enzo and Adelina seem a tad less powerful emotionally. Why didn't she get a chance to defend herself like the Daggers did? It's unfair but hopefully will be addressed in Book 3. I would also be interested to learn if Enzo feels like he is being used by both sides now. I'm hoping we get chapters with Enzo's POV in book 3. There has never been a being like him so it would be great to be in his mind. The romances in this book are also interesting and I wonder what will happen to them in Book 3. Everyone getting together should be extremely interesting.

These were the lessons that I learned from reading The Rose Society: 1) that ties to people and one's own mind can be broken extremely easily under the right circumstances, 2) emotions (especially love) can definitely be a detriment, and 3) nobody in this world has an easy life.
