Batman/The Flash: The Button Deluxe Edition by Joshua Williamson, Tom King

3.0

Interesting but not amazing. I could see the events in this book being surprising and thrilling but...maybe if I didn’t know what was coming up/currently happening in Batman and Doomsday Clock I’d be more impressed? Or if I'd been up to speed (ba dum tss) on The Flash?

Generally, I have to wonder how common my "meh" attitude towards these kinds of stories is. Most of the time, I'm playing catch up on crossovers and Big Things and, me being me, I spoil myself on what's happened so the Big Reveal doesn't wow me. I've said this in other reviews, but I really do prefer these stories in the nice chunks you get when reading a collected edition. Reading month-to-month, dragging the story out by 4+ weeks at a time, I get bored, I forget what just happened, I've moved on to something else and am not in the mood for whatever nonsense is happening in insert-series-title-here. The drawback to reading that way, is that you pretty much know what the Shocking Revelation/Conclusion to a story is and it often falls flat. Like The Button did for me today.

Of course, if you can block out spoilers and keep the mystery going, I'm sure it's great! You get the whole thing in one go and can tear through the book while sitting on the edge of your seat! I just can't seem to do that and end up being underwhelmed most of the time. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
