Ella’s distrust is an absolute trauma response, and it’s not fair Beckett takes all the blame for that and has to grovel for her forgiveness. He’s such an unrealistic book boyfriend trope - he exists to be obsessed with her (but that’s Yarros’s MO to be fair). And Ella’s son dying at the end — after literally EVERYONE else in her family dying (parents, grandmother, brother) and only one (her daughter) surviving??? Then the rest of the book feeling super rushed through? It just didn’t hit with me.
