I’m so relieved that I liked this book. I bounced off the first two T. Kingfisher books I tried, and read the first page of another before noping out of that one. But the blurbs always sound good, and so many people with whom I have overlapping book affinity really like T. Kingfisher. So I’m happy that this is the second novel in a row by her that I have really enjoyed.
I think the biggest thing that helped is approaching her books as horror-adjacent reads. That way I’m not put off by description of skeletons and bodily fluids and serious injuries intruding on my otherwise quite enjoyable book.
