The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

5.0

This book is great for so many different reasons, the most important of which being that this is being told from the perspective of the diagnosed. It is not often that a writer attempts to capture the emotion that is felt by the person struggling with everything cancer is and does. I found it refreshing to get a glimpse from the other side rather than reading the story through a loved ones perspective. John Green does an excellent job of capturing the tragedy and struggles of cancer while also making sure that his characters have lives of their own. It is too often in our society that the disease becomes the person's identity and Green does a wonderful job of reminding us that there are indeed personalities, people, and everyday emotions still behind the identity of cancer.
