The Marriage Lie by Kimberly Belle

3.0

I have some mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, it kept me reading and I was fully engrossed in it. On the other, I couldn't get past the dissonance I felt at some of the main character's actions. And worst of all...

The lone black character in the book, the one who is initially handsome and kind and helpful, turns out to be the villain. I wish I could say I was shocked, but I wasn't. I saw it coming from approximately a billion miles away.

As terrible as the stereotypical depiction of this character was, insult is added to injury by Will justifying his own actions because of Corban, and by Iris having some pretty mixed feelings toward Will while clearly seeing Corban as a bad guy.
