funny hopeful lighthearted reflective sad

After my last read, I was in a bit of a slump... Audre & Bash Are Just Friends brought me back. Thank god. While I'm a fan of Tia Williams and Seven Days in June, I wasn't sure what to expect from her in this YA spinoff. I read this in two sittings over Memorial Day Weekend.

It's easy to go into YA thinking it'll simply be a cute story, but this book pleasantly surprised me with its depth. This one was too relatable for a former overachieving honors student perfectionist and recovering people-pleaser, who also has more questions than answers within her family history. Very specific? I know. It's my life too. A story like this when I was a teen would've been a lifeline, and I hope it finds its way to the other Audres in the world.

"Audre would've killed to learn the secrets between her mom and grandmother. Because she was curious, sure. But also because somewhere in those secrets were clues about who she was, too."

I received an ARC from B&N Book Fest, and it's now an even more treasured possession. ♡
