The plot is decent enough but the characterisation needs some real work and the dialogue isn't great. I also felt the romance was super rushed and Ren isn't a very alluring character. 

JLA is a great writer, but her earlier stuff is expectedly unpolished. You can definitely see where she recycled some of the ideas for the Blood & Ash series. 

Also, the choice of faeries was a bit odd. Vampires or some other sort of being would have made more sense.
