Bored Gay Werewolf by Tony Santorella

1.0

This dry, sarcastic comedic style just does not work for me. It almost feels like a mockumentary at points, which is something I've never enjoyed. It frankly feels like I'm overhearing annoying conversations at work and that's not entertaining to me. I get enough tech bros, toxic masculinity, and bad self help advice in the real world.

The mc is so passive in his story and his life that he might was well not even be there. I don't care to read a story where the characters don't even care to be in it. It is very similar to Dead Collections, another book I didn't enjoy, in that way and I have no desire to read lightly supernatural flavored ennui.

I assumed the "bored" in the title would mean the character is driven to change and find a passion, but really he just wants to take a backseat and let others steer him where they wish. I wouldn't have guessed either that "bored" is the most important element from the title. He's bored through his day hookups and seems uninterested in finding anything meaningful. The werewolf part is simply an essence like LaCroix, could be swapped with practically anything and the story would be identical. It feels indistinguishable to a commute for the mc and like a keto diet to the others.

The ending is tacked on as others have said. It doesn't really add anything and a nice little theme tie in at the end could've helped. Finding a true passion, not being handed one. The power of friendship, even. The mc sitting in a field and appreciating the bird song. I'm not picky (said at the end of a very picky sounding review)
