This is one of those “why didn’t I know this” books. I did my know about the concentration camps created by the British during the Boer war. Horrific. It is set beside the equally horrific experience of teenage boys sent to camps run by Afrikaans to “toughen” them up. But also the love of mothers and grandmothers for their children. I loved it.
