Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo

3.0

What I loved about this book was Nikolai... He absolutely carried the book singlehandedly. If it weren't for his quick wit, his banter with Alina, and his hilarious quips (not to mention a backstory that isn't dull) I think i would have put this one down.

It felt very much like the second in a series..slow, but necessary to the story. The pacing was way off (exciting ay the start, very slow the rest of the book until literally the last two chapters), nothing much happened most of the book due to the protagonists staying at the Little Palace to prepare for battle.

And then of course we had to read Alina's internal dialogue about how selfish she is and how she cant decide between which of the three gorgeous men she wants to let kiss her. I MEAN COME ONNN! It was excruciating and juvenile.

Another issue was Mal. Now granted he was very whiney, but i credit that to Alina with all her selfishness and mixed signals. For being lifelong friends they are not very good communicators. As a result every interaction was full of angst and unsaid words and was SO cringy.

I loved Shadow and Bone and will therefore finish the series, but Siege and Storm took a lot of work to get through. Let it not be said that i don't finish what i start.
