Okay, just...WOW! I was not expecting to adore this book as much as I did. To be fair, I am in my cowboy era right now...but I'm also always in my cowboy era, honestly. I loved how fierce and feisty Ruby was even despite her medical issues. I also live for a grumpy cowboy and Charlie Montgomery is the definition of grumpy cowboy, so I was addicted from the start. Ruby was always trying to live for the moment and I enjoyed that about her. She also didn't let Charlie's grumpy exterior dim her light. And that light broke down all of Charlie's defenses. Their relationship started as one night, which turned into just for the summer, which...well, we all know how things went after that. I loved the banter between Charlie and his brothers, who were never afraid to joke around with each other and give each other shit. I also loved all of the growth in this story! Ruby traveled all around the country to live her life to the fullest, but Runaway Ranch was a place that made her realize how much she wanted to stay in one place. Ruby and her sunshine personality helped Charlie learn to let light into the darkness of his life. Charlie grew so much in this story with Ruby's help and I love seeing personal growth in books. This book had me in tears and being able to evoke so much emotion from me immediately gets a book 5 stars from me. I loved this book so much and I cannot wait to see what the rest of the Montgomery brothers get up to at Runaway Ranch in the future!
