This is a really great story. The writing is simple and suitable for anyone 4+. The subject matter is pretty intense and it's the most realistic look at a positive foster care situation I've ever seen in a novel. The book is mildly funny and heart-warming at times but mostly it's incredibly sad. Reading it from the prospective of someone who works everyday caring for other people's children, I found the helplessness of everyone very sad and I was basically balling my eyes out at the end. But I'm really glad to have read it.

Rec 6+ realistic fiction, troubled homes, students who need some push to go to college/make change.
