Death Note - Volume III

Review:

NOTES & THOUGHTS
• I’m not much of a Manga (or comic, or graphic novel) reader. I much prefer a regular novel, however I really enjoy the Death Note manga.
• I really enjoyed the concept of this manga (both this particular volume and the series as a whole). It was dark and entertaining, and the themes and ideas within were very unique and creative. I really enjoyed the fact that although it was quite dark, there were humorous elements throughout, breaking through the darkness and making for a more exciting read.
• This book was a continuation of the previous volumes; both in terms of it carrying on the same storyline, and in the darkness and intensity of the rest of the series being prominent within this book.
• This book wasn’t quite as consistent with it’s pacing, in my option anyway. The rest of the books were super fast paced and super constant all the time, whereas this one had slower aspects.

HIGHLIGHTS
• I really enjoyed the use of another cliff-hanger ending. It seems to be a running theme for these books, but it works well and is what these books needed. I’m glad I have the next books in the series through, otherwise I’d probably be mad!
• There were some incredible plot twists within this book, which kept it exciting. It also helped speed the pacing up after the slower elements of this book.
• Misa didn’t seem to be as sexualised in this book, which I was so glad about. I find her such a solid and fun character, and the over-sexualisation was my only downfall about her.

DOWNFALLS / NOT AS GOOD
• This has been my least favourite of the series so far. I found the pacing dragged a little in a few places, but otherwise it was really enjoyable.
