This has been unexpectedly for me a great read.
The memoir is so well written that at any point i was unable to point out anyone as a antagonist or a great supporting character but all play a role as it was , a neutral
Tove's relationships with her family dictate her entire childhood with so little to have and yet shown to be a bit better than anyone else around.
i only got the feeling this might be close to [b:Netochka Nezvanova|17893|Netochka Nezvanova|Fyodor Dostoevsky|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1399157428l/17893._SY75_.jpg|51859866] and the similar way of progress as the girl observes people around her and mould her not to be the same, although much shorter than the Dostoevsky's unfinshed book , it does however give a sense of closure to this phase of life which the other never did.
It does however made me reflect and find parallels to my own childhood, although nowhere as harsh nor was i smart enough to observe many things around me nor was i a poet. Its difficult to put in words how but as author sees others as people with one dimensional behaviour , i now realise looking back that i see myself like that and also the opposite of relating to some of her actions as somethings i did too.
Apart from the thought provocations , the writing is powerful too and lot relatable
"That’s the worst thing about grownups, I think – they can never admit that just once in their lives they’ve acted wrongly or irresponsibly. They’re so quick to judge others, but they
never hold Judgement Day for themselves"
This for me opened my eyes more than majority of self help books can.
"I’ll never again sit on the windowsill and dream about all the happiness that’s only attainable by grown-up people."
It was always a great feeling to think about being a adult in childhood and what great things we would do and the immesureable happiness we would be showered upon, that is innocence i believe everyone had and its never when that abrubtly ends and new phase of pragmatism begins.
It feels good that she atleast was able to put them in words and realise when it ended.
Such a wonderful read!
