Broken Knight by L.J. Shen
4.0

Broken Knight is the first book I read by J.L. Shen and it’s complicated how unleashed a turmoil of feelings with me. Mostly because Knight is complicated, so young, beautiful, broken and on the path of self distruction, because he feels too much, he loves so much, but he can’t deal with the pain which sometimes is the other side of the coin when you love someone.
He’s so complicated, fragile but strong, mean and apparently cold but so close and protective with his mother and in love over the hills with Luna.
I don’t want to tell much about the plot, there’s a lot of angst, Luna and Knight made mistakes, hurt each other. As friends they’re so close and amazing, as couple they have to find their way, and their path it’s not so easy.
Luna must learn to find her place in the world alone, outside from her comfort zone, away from home where she can have always someone ready to protect her. Knight needs her strong, tough, so she can break through his defense and fight with him, fight for him. She can’t see that, but she will.
Sometimes I was really mad with Knight, wanted to throw things at him, punch him, I don’t know… hate and love, really. On the other way, I can’t help myself but love him, love this boy who cares so deeply for Rosie, his mom, putting always her first and dealing after with everything else.
And there are lot of things.
In this story many characters called to me, they’re compelling, amazing.
Vaughn intrigued me, but I fell in love hard with Knight’s parents Rosie and Dean. Their love is breathtaking, so pure and beautiful. They broke my heart, I cried with them, for them, but it was worth it. it’s impossible not to feel reading this story.
Feel is good, not always easy, but good.
