Read on Kindle and didn't even realize I was at the end. I swiped, saw "Acknowledgments," and thought WOW! I finished this in one day because of how addicting the story is. While all of the characters are deeply flawed, they're interesting and believable.
I recently read Babel, and this is my second R. F. Kuang book. Between the two, I feel like her writing style is gradiloquent (now I'm doing it by using this word no one ever uses in a real-life sentence). I enjoy learning new vocabulary in books! But as I'm reading, I think "this big word seems out of place." Then the same unusual word gets repeated in another chapter. It reads like someone learning a new big word and invents ways to use it, even if it stops the flow.
