Code Dependent: Living in the Shadow of AI
by Madhumita Murgia
informative
slow-paced
not life changing new information but the stories about how AI affects people‘s lives were definitely worth reading. a wide variety of topics is covered, with chapters called ‘your livelihood‘, body, identity, health, freedom, safety net, boss, rights, future & society. I especially liked (i.e. was disgusted by but consider important) the chapter on deepfakes (your body) & the ones on livelihood & health are also really interesting. other chapters were hard for me to get through but maybe that‘s just bc I wasn‘t as interested in those topics (and disagree with the author on some things)
the book is more focused on risks & downsides than the good stuff but ig the title makes that clear and also it does highlight some opportunities so it’s not entirely one-sided
Minor: Cancer, Racism, Rape, Violence, Medical content, Murder, Pregnancy, Pandemic/Epidemic
