Mixed feelings about this one. The mystery didn't really do anything for me. I wouldn't go so far as to say I disliked it, but it never really managed to get above "just there" for me. On the other hand, I did quite like some of the character work. The friendship/found family elements, the coming of age and finding one's place in the world, the impostor syndrome. These were the parts I connected with the most. I did find a couple of parts of the book quite cringe-inducing, though. I think this was probably deliberate and done for humour value, but I never really "get" cringe humour, so it fell very flat for me.

Overall view: not bad, but unremarkable.
