i knew i would love this collection as HALF of my pinned poems on pinterest are from miss oliver herself, however i had NOT realized id fall in love with the author in the process. mary oliver writes better than anyone i’ve ever read on the weight of being witnessed and understood, and how sacred the act of paying attention is. every poem of hers is somehow both godly and a praise to the mundane. if devotion is the highest sacrament one can take, this book fully heeds it, holding its chin tilted at once towards life and death, wearing its name gorgeously. it is truly a book to enter a season of gratitude and after reading it, one (me) should try and do so more often (!!!)
