This was such a lighthearted yet enchanting read. I went in expecting something completely different, but the story unfolded in a way that still kept me intrigued. Katherine Arden’s writing blends Russian folklore with a magical, wintery atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re right in the middle of a fairytale.

The main character, Vasya, was fascinating to follow—strong-willed and connected to the mystical world around her. The balance between tradition, religion, and folklore added depth, even when the pacing felt slower at times.
