Cole’s Redemption, Alpha Pack #5, by J.D. Tyler
Grade: B

“They’re called Alpha Pack, and they all have special abilities, like seeing the dead of telekinesis or whatever, even before they were turned into shifters. Now they protect the world for just about every paranormal threat you can imagine - vampires, witches, demons, Unseelie, Slaugh. You name it. they’ve probably battled it.”

Selene Westfall is on a mission to find the father that abandoned her when she needed him most and take her revenge for her mother’s death. After finally tracking her father to the Alpha Pack compound she is ready to make her move but she never expected one of her father’s men to intercept her and change both of their lives forever. Selene now finds herself as Zander’s bond mate and her whole world flipped upside down. Everything Selene grew up believing has been questioned and she doesn’t know who to believe. Selene finds herself only able to rely on Zander and she soon finds herself doing everything to protect this stranger she has grown to love.

Zander Cole is trying to find his place in the pack after a horrible injury left him deaf and his gift of healing in question. A mistaken bite leads to Zander finding his bond mate which leads to his injuries being healed. Selene is everything Zander has ever wanted but when evil threatens the pack Zander makes choices that could rip apart the new bond he’s formed. Zander wants to spend forever with this woman who has stolen his heart but his duties and loyalty to his pack brothers could change all that forever.

I have a weird relationship with this series since I loved book #2, hated book #3 and skipped book 4 completely. I don’t know why but I decided to give this series a second chance but I am so happy that I did. Selene and Zander were a breath of fresh air for this series and I have a lot of hope that the following books will be just as great. In the first four books there was a lot of magic going on and not as much focused on the actual werewolves and I feel like this book is going in a much better direction than it has been.

I loved Selene from the moment she was introduced. She is very damaged but covers that with a hard shell that cracks little by little with Zander’s help. Zander has been one of the guys who I’ve been dying to get his own book and Selene was perfect for him. Zander is very sweet but is also very much an alpha male who protects what is his. The two sides of him were really great and not often seen in this romance world of either sweet guys of alpha-holes. These two have a perfect balance together and some smoking hot chemistry that kept me reading late into the night.

I have once again fallen under the spell of J.D. Tyler and I am so happy I gave this series a second chance. I am so excited to see what the future holds for the Alpha Pack, especially with all of the new vampire friends they’ve made. I am really hoping for Nick’s book next and I’m hoping that this series just keeps getting better and better.
