This was translated so I think a lot of things were lost, but I still enjoyed the vignettes and dialogue. Unfortunately it was a very slow start for me and I started over many times. And I do not know enough about the Ukrain or Russia which lost me a little - but I’m happy I trekked on.
It’s a coming-of-age story that explores music, fame, heritage and belonging, and time and memory. It begins in 2012, but flashes back to 1970s. My questions were:
Whose story is it?
- The guitarist or the writer?
- Is art and love really no match for death?
- Is memory a reliable narrator?
Not my favorite, but a decent read.
