On Juneteenth by Annette Gordon-Reed

4.0

A memoir, partly disguised as a history book, about growing up Black in Texas -- and growing to love Texas -- Gordon-Reed's latest is eloquently written, engaging to read, and quite informative (at least to this non-Texan). Sometimes I wish there was a bit more there, but then again, I'm writing this as someone who didn't grow up and had never lived in Texas.
