I don’t know that I can fully express how much this book meant to me. While so many of the specifics of Polley’s childhood (and adulthood) are radically different than mine, I was (am) also a precocious, imaginative, sensitive child that learned to ignore such impulses in service of something else that ended up being quite damaging. If we read to know that we are not alone, this book looked me directly in the eyes and said “I see you.”
