cute, read on a cruise seemed fitting

I’ve never been one for pirate stories (though I loved Our Flag Means Death) but I love mermaids/sirens ! this type of YA is not really my cup of tea but I still enjoyed the story and will be reading the next books in the series

riden is a very cute character but I do feel there’s more to unpack there. I thought he and allosa opened up to each other veryyy quickly, and I prefer a slow burn tbh

I love a strong FMC who also loves clothes and makeup and hygiene lmao (missing you Aelin bby)

I understand allosa never had a normal childhood but how does one become their own captain way before age 17? I don’t think it mentioned when exactly she got her ship but I imagine it’s been a few years

I think it’s interesting when characters have this huge secret and their internal monologue is always “but I can’t share that part of myself”, “but that’s the part of myself that no one else knows” and it like doesn’t really make sense. they’re constantly alluding to something and then the time it’s actually revealed, it’s a little anticlimactic. it’s so obvious that she has a secret and instead of being a twist, it’s more annoying that it took so long to fill in the reader

I don’t love over sexualized minors esp since it is assumed that she’s seduced men for years when she’s only 17….i get it but also feel icky reading it — I’ve also never understood why authors make the FMC only one year younger than the MMC,, just make them the same age!!
