The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro

5.0

Ishiguro does a perfect job at demonstrating the life of a devoted English butler and how the lifestyle he chose, affects him. The theme of ‘dignity’ and what makes a good butler are always present in the book. This not only gives us what Stevens thinks about the world, but also what he thinks about himself. This story moved me. I guess, the way that Stevens sees the world broke my heart, and those around him. It is written in a very formal tone, but I found that as soon as you’re some pages in, it’s very easy to follow.

I really enjoyed this book, and would love to read more of Ishiguro’s novels. I really recommend it.
