Shades of Earth by Beth Revis
4.0

This was on par with the other books in the series. Not amazing, but pretty good overall. I still took off a star because the Amy still annoyed me and I felt the ending was a bit lackluster. However, the plot was pretty good and kept me reading to the end.

Amy: She's still a pouty, spoiled brat. She's pretty selfish as a character. Everything she does is really only in her best interest. WHY DOES EVERYONE LIKE HER SO MUCH?
SpoilerI mean Chris just met her and isn't technically the same species anymore. Why does he all of a sudden have a boner for her?
Why is the whole story so dependent on her? What is it about her that makes her so unique and special? I really can't put my finger on it. I just don't really like her as the heroine of the story.

Elder: I feel like he really grew into a leader here.
SpoilerHe was willing to sacrifice himself to save his people by pushing the Godspeed into the space station.
For some reason he really likes Amy and just wants to give her everything. She's not really all that nice to him.
SpoilerShe doesn't tell him she loves him, she won't let him say he loves her. But they do have sex and its a romantic scene. So there's that...

The Ending: All of this will be a spoiler so I'm hiding it.
SpoilerIs it just me or does this feel like it just... ends? I feel like some really major plot events occur in the last couple of chapters and are left unexplored. Like what is Amy's life going to be like now that she was forced into becoming a hybrid? How will the colonists and the hybrids form a community. Will the FRX ever come and start a war with them? I doubt they would give up so easily considering they were already willing to enslave an entire planet to make a profit. I almost feel like there is supposed to be a 4th book in the series to really finish these plot points. Instead it's left super open ended. There are a lot of books with an open ending that still feel complete in that all the plot points are addressed and the only unknown is how the characters will continue on. This ending has that to some extent but I just feel like there are too many unanswered questions to make it feel complete.
