Another fun entry in the series. My son is in love with these books.

The fact that Pilkey routinely uses lines from other works as major character turns or plot points is something I haven't resolved for myself. On the one hand, he sites the original works in a sort of bibliography at the back of the book and I understand the urge to show characters deriving wisdom from reading. That's all excellent encouragement. However, the characters in the story don't actually site other books, they just have these moments of insight which have been done elsewhere and which has slid past parody into a gray area very much like acknowledged plagerism. Is it lazy, hackwork, or is it inspiration?

I don't have an answer and I'm not sure it matters. My 5 year old is getting an entertaining first draft on a lot of wonderful ideas and I have a great time reading them to him.
