“And you bringing happiness to people doesn’t mean you’re unable to feel trauma. Nor does it mean you should hide it. Pushing it down doesn’t make it better. I would know.”

Personally, this has been the most highly anticipated book of the series. Lena has always been the star in every other story I’ve read - she’s a precious gem of a person, and I legit rushed through all the other books to get to hers. Lena is my favourite character in this entire series. I’m unsure if it’s due to Jude’s indirect association with Lena, but he is the only guy in all books who has always captured my attention.

“When you circled a person for three years, wanting them and never actually having them, things had a right to move faster than the average couple.”

This is the only reason I can wholeheartedly accept the fast-paced romance in this since their love has been brewing over the past few books. Of course, given this, I knew this book would have more spice than the rest due to the long build-up and also because it’s Jude. Here are all the chapters with spice: 9, 10, 15, 22.

“It’s not her. And I can’t put her in danger. I won’t. I could kill her, Daniel. Without a thought. Without even knowing, I could kill her. I couldn’t live with that. You know I’d rather die than hurt her, so there’s your answer. It doesn’t matter what I want. It matters that she’s safe, and she never would be with me. I’d always planned to get a handle on it and then ‘make a move,’ as you called it. But it’s been years, and I’m not any better. It’s not fair to her. I need to let her go.”

My heart cracked and ached for Jude - the trauma, all that burden he shouldered alone, the buried feelings, the isolation. He was punishing himself for many things beyond his control, and it was refreshing to see him take the incentive and work on himself for Lena’s sake. Although Lena had her share of demons, she was constantly trying to maintain her bubbly persona for the sake of others, and that was beginning to take a toll on her. This story narrates how they help each other embark on a poignant healing journey.

Highlights:
> Jude being nervous to enter Lena’s apartment- ADORABLE
> Lena’s interior is green!!! Her house sounds like my dream home - the green velvet couch, the bookcase
> “But if Lena has a working car, then she’ll stop calling me for rides.” - Excuse me, Sir Jude
