This book was super dark and twisty, but still very enjoyable. I do think I might go back and reread parts of it—I realized I was a bit distracted by things going on in my life while listening, which may have caused me to miss some pieces of the plot. That said, I still feel like I have a solid grasp of the overall story.
It was really interesting to see things unfold, especially with the secretiveness between Rowan and Dom. I wasn’t surprised that they ended up romantically interested in each other—those dynamics tend to pop up in books like this—but I also would’ve been fine if it hadn’t happened.
I was absolutely shocked when the truth about Hank came out—especially that he had taken advantage of a minor and then tried to kill her when she said she might be pregnant. What absolute scum. I truly thought he was dead for most of the book, so finding out he was alive was a big twist. I did feel a little guilty on Rowan’s behalf once it was confirmed, since she had already slept with Dom by then—but honestly, Hank was a terrible person, and she should have left him anyway.
Maybe I’ll give this one another try in print instead of audio. I think it might feel like a different experience—and possibly easier to stay focused if there’s background noise going on in my life.
