The actual, physical book is gorgeous; every page has life and texture around the border, while still allowing the text to be easy to read. The depiction of Deaf experiences (as a hearing person) were fascinating to learn about. It was lovely to read about Melbourne, albeit in a dystopian future. I thought the world Asphyxia built was really fascinating, well-thought-out and interesting. My only gripes with the book were the characters and the at times weak writing. The plot was well structured and considered, though sometimes the actual prose was pretty basic. I also thought the characters weren't very layered/deep, but that's alright with me, as the rest of the book was executed so brilliantly. Again, the highlight of this book was reading about Deaf issues, culture and relationships.
