Den of Vipers by K.A. Knight
5.0
How could such an erotic piece of literature be so romantic ???
I was swooning one minute and uncomfortably squirming the next. I had an honest to God, "am I into this moment," with myself that I am not ashamed to admit.
This is a reverse harem, dark mafia romance done RIGHT!
The execution was superbly done and I honestly feel like this is the best RH I've read. There was PLUT- (plot + smut), an engaging and gripping plotline with just the right amount of mystery to keep readers engaged. To say I devoured this was an understatement. Those Vipers had me eating out of the palms of their hands with their dominant possessive behavior.
Den of Vipers does not toe the line of darkness but rather sunbathes alongside a sea of obscene. To describe Den of Vipers as a dark romance seems inadequate because the author constantly pushes the envelope on propriety. The scenes are explicit but within the context of the story almost poetic in a sense- "Maybe it's the rest of the world that's crazy, not us...Then again, maybe we're just too insane to see how not crazy everyone else is."
There is some graphic stuff, not gonna lie, from the knife scenes (think less stabby and more penetration), polyamorous depictions, pain/pleasure juxtaposition, blood play, and all-around erotic scenes. I cannot look at a water bottle the same again!
Roxy, the female protagonist is a sassy, tough-as-nails bar owner with a dark past. I adored how the author penned her just this side of cray cray, which let's be honest, she would have to be to deal with those Vipers. I enjoyed her inner monologues which were adventurous, honest, and at times emotional.
"You see the darkness, and you walk that line, one foot in and one foot out."
Roxy is the female lead a lot of RH authors aspire to create- unyielding in her dominance with a sprinkle of love and a healthy heaping of psychotic. Roxy's versatility and her ability to adapt to each Viper without sacrificing a piece of her were spectacularly entertaining.
"I hate them, I do. I want to kill them...but also kinda want to screw them?"
Let's talk about the guys, Ryder is the face of the operation and the glue that holds the group together, Garett is the enforcer, the muscle, Kenzo is dealer, always willing to gamble but Diesel, oh my sweet precious batshit crazy Diesel- he is the psychotic man of my dreams. I feel like Diesel could be the love child of Harley Quin and Joker and in my honest opinion, Den of Vipers would not have been half as successful if not for this certifiable man. While each was uniquely appealing, they complemented each other in a strange but familiar way.
I enjoyed the symbiosis of Roxy and the Vipers relationship as I honestly felt they grew in so many ways- as individuals, as partners, and finally as a harem. Yes, Roxy became slightly sweeter and exponentially crazier, but the guys all changed drastically, embracing their past and choosing to face their demons- "Can you love someone who takes away your freedom."
I highly recommend for those who enjoy Reverse Harem| Dark Romance| Erotica
