Cherry
by Nico Walker
“And I have been mangled by vicious killers in my time, but I haven’t ever doubted it was only that someone had killed them first.”
excuse me if this review isn’t worded well, fighting the Sick is making it hard to articulate how much I loved this book.
You can really see the pain that this man held, even if he used humor to hide most of it. This story was harrowing, and eye opening to me. I was only a few years old when this book took place, so I don’t remember much of the opioid epidemic. This gives a good perspective of the people who are still struggling with it to this day.
The way that Nico words this book makes it accessible to a broader audience and ensures that his message is able to resonate with a lot of people who may be in his position.
All around, this book earned all five stars of this review and I’m hoping that Nico is doing well at home despite getting out of prison just to be met with a covid pandemic.
