White Night
by Jim Butcher
Still some good, classic Dresden, but is it possible that this book is too much of the same, classic Dresden? While the case is interesting a lot of the story built around it was the same beats we have been playing over and over again book after book. Thomas being secretive, White Court vamps meeting in a secret cove, and gangster Johnny Marcone coming to the rescue once again. At some point it almost makes me wish Butcher would address some of these larger story arcs and bring some diversity to the overarching tension that has been looming over this series since Grave Peril. This is maybe the first time that I’ve experienced a true fatigue with this series, largely attributable to the rinse and repeat story elements. I only hope the author can infuse some new life energy into the next one.
